Prospective foster carers begin by making an enquiry with the agency. This allows the agency to gather initial information and provide guidance on the fostering role, responsibilities, and requirements.
Applicants undergo a thorough, fair, and robust assessment process in accordance with statutory guidance. This includes enhanced DBS checks, comprehensive referencing, and an assessment of the applicant’s capacity to safeguard children and promote their welfare.
The assessment considers the applicant’s skills, experience, and ability to meet the diverse and complex needs of children and young people.
All foster carers are required to complete mandatory pre-approval training and are supported to complete the Training, Support and Development (TSD) Standards within required timescales. Ongoing learning opportunities are provided, including safeguarding and child protection, trauma-informed care, attachment and child development, managing behaviour positively, and equality and diversity. Training records are maintained, and compliance is monitored.
